      • Explain how the primary principles of unity, variety, hierarchy, dominance, proportion,

          and balance affect the design composition as a whole.
      • Describe the use of the design elements shape, space, line, size, color, texture, and

          typography as composition as a whole.
Include images that show an example of a good and a bad composition.
Discuss the principles and elements used in each image as well as why you believe the composition is good or bad.

Individual: Design Plan
For the Week Five final project, you will have created a logo, website, and mobile site for your fictitious client, Philomena's Pet Shop. You will begin working on this project this week and will continue in future weeks of this course.
Write a design plan to include typeface and color palettes, as well as, thumbnail sketches of your design ideas for the logo, website and mobile site.
Note: The actual logo is due in Week Three, website is due in Week Four, and mobile site is due in Week Five.
Submit your design plan as a Microsoft Word document to the Assignment Files tab.

 

Supporting Activity: Color
Search the web for a website that uses color especially well and one that does not. Include both URLs in your response.
Discuss why each website fits the respective criteria.
Answer the following question:
    • What would you specifically change about the ineffective use of color to fix it?

Consider how you can acquire images without violating copyright laws.
Search the web for two to three good copyright-free websites that offer imagery you might be able to use for the
projects in this course.

Based on the design plan you created in Week Two, create the logo for Philomena's Pet Shop using Adobe Illustrator.
The logo should be designed and saved for print (save a web version as well for next week) and the size of the logo should be no more than 200x200 pixels.
Use effective design elements and principles to create a visually appealing and professional composition.
Submit your logo as a PDF to the Assignment Files tab.

Individual: Website Design
Based on the design plan you created in Week Two, create the website for Philomena's Pet Shop using Adobe Muse.
Create a single webpage for Philomena's Pet Shop. This page should promote the client's shop, provide information to locate and contact the shop, a brief overview about the products and services provided, and any other information that you believe customers should know.
Be sure to add the logo in web format that you created in Week Three.
Also, add a page title, images, use a good color scheme, and use at least two different fonts.
Use effective design elements and principles to create a visually appealing and professional site.
Include only non-copyrighted images for the website.
Save all images, HTML files, CSS files, and other web elements within the same folder on your computer.
Compress the entire folder as a ZIP file for submission.
Submit the ZIP file containing the one-page website to the Assignment Files tab.

Learning Team: Media Design Elements Final Project
Complete the seminar presentation on the subject of design in various media forms.
Create a PDF handout to accompany the presentation that is visually appealing and shares the key points. This handout is a takeaway for participants at the seminar.
Compose a narrated presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint, Prezi, or a similar software application. The annotated presentation must outline the major design elements, principles, and processes as they relate to the various forms of media and advertising. The presentation should be at least eight slides.
Note: If using Microsoft PowerPoint, click on PowerPoint help and search for "Record and add narration and timings to a slide show".
Submit both your PDF and presentation to the Assignment Files tab.

Instructions:
Based on the design plan you created in Week Two and the website you created in Week Four, create a mobile version of the website for Philomena's Pet Shop Adobe Muse. This page should be similar to the single page website created in Week Four, but must follow mobile design guidelines.
Use effective design elements and principles to create a visually appealing and professional composition.
Save all images, HTML files, CSS files, and other web elements within the same folder on your computer.
Compress the entire folder as a ZIP file for submission.
Submit the ZIP file containing the one-page mobile website to the Assignment Files tab.
